G'day there I am having some electrical issues with my 12-32 So to access the starter switch and check the working I would like to remove it I can not get the switch lever removed from the switch body (hope this makes sense) I can not see well enough to know how the lever is connected to the switch body, i think allen key I have included a picture of the switch If any one has experience with these could you please assist Thanks in advance Dave
Dave, I assume you are wanting to take the operating knob off, have not worked on this particular machine, but in my dealings with this type of knob there is usually a screw which is accessed through a hole in the bottom of the long part of the knob. Take a look with a mirror from the bottom up.
Hi cameronda, Sorry I am not sure how the switch comes out but I would be more inclined to suspect the solonoid switch than the actual switch. Trace the heavy wire from the battery up under the dash area and it will lead you to the solonoid switch Then you will have to work out how to remove it but disconnect the battery first. Then come back and we will see if we can help from there. Often removing the dash is not an option because it requires removal of the steering wheel and that can be problematic
Thanks Beech I have tried to see up under the switch, it looks like a allan key. I can not see well enough I have used a good torch with my phone to see under the switch I have tried different keys but just can not tell if i am engaging correctly I am hoping some one else has done this
Thanks NormK I will recheck the wires, it is about 1 in the morning and the instant recall is a bit fuzzy I will get a pic of the solenoid and try to get a pic of the rear of the switch There are i think four wire connections on the solenoid, this confuses me The switch is like wise with more then the normal in and out for power, so it is hard to check what is supposed to work in correct order Then there is a relay that connects the safety cut outs, this has the appearance of being done after production I am thinking of just heading back to a basic wiring set up, battery switch solenoid starter. Save weight by pissing off the extra wires Dave
Hi Dave, Yes some solonoids have 4 wires, the 2 heavy wires and 2 thin wires, one of the thin wires is a earth, the other is a positive coming from the start switch which activates the solonoid. If you can get to the solonoid an easy way to test it is, once you have found which thin wire is coming from the start switch, get a piece of wire long enough to come from the positive on the battery and touch it onto the thin wire you found coming from the start switch onto the solonoid. This should kick the solonoid in. Just for safety, remove the spark plug wire to prevent it from starting. If this test works then it indicates the solonoid is ok so then you go back to looking at the start switch
