Squizzy, no leg out of bed, this motor was not smoking or using oil, it has just stopped. In reality none of this stuff is worth repairing, I just do it to fill in time. I spent probably between 5 and 6 hours today fixing a mates self propelled Honda. He took it to his regular mower shop and was told it needed a new gearbox $400 for the box and $100 labour. He asked me if I would look at it so I pulled the gearbox out, looked fine, put it back in adjusted the cable up, still nothing, then I discovered that the drive shaft had broken the sheer pin.As I said I messed with it for many hours(couple of broken studs, the usual sort of problems) and shop has to recover these hours so this mower with a good Honda motor was in reality cost prohibitive to repair. Sad fact of life these days.
