yep, that's a possible leg out of bed, usually caused by over revving.
if your motor is using oil but not smoking, sounds like the bottom seal is shagged.
briggs motors dont have to be exxy to fix. a set of rings. valve grind and a coupla gaskets
will usually do the job.
