Hi Mystyler,

Not a problem mate, and yeah that'd be great if you should share that. I have a sheet that comes with the replacement carby's, I'll try to share it on here. That contains the typical settings which should be used for any PowerTorque with the new carby modifications.

What book are you working off? I've been trying to get hold of a current (Post 2005/2006) spare parts manual but haven't been able to find one. I've also been trying to get hold of some sort of official Victa workshop manual, but all I've been able to find out there are the Haynes/Gregorys manuals. When I spoke to one Victa Gold dealer, they told me that there is no workshop manual, you need to go to a training course that Victa run. If that is correct, that kinda sucks haha. I've always preferred having the original documentation from the manufacturer. This way you can try to troubleshoot with the correct settings or parts or understand fully and in-depth how something works, as opposed to just the opinion of some people. Please don't get me wrong, that's what we're all doing here lol and it is helpful and that's why I'm here, you can't get everything from a manual/book, and in places like this you can get other things you can't get from manuals/books.. knowledge from experience in the field (Literally.. haha).

Cheers,

G'day Mowerfreak,

My original full crank Commando from 1982 has the G4 with the idle screw and it seems to work fine on my mower, but as I said I had to add those 2 brass washers into the carby to get the idle adjustment to work properly again.

I added in those 2 brass washers back in 2011 after I asked about it on these forums and it still works great to this day. They must need these washers to be added in after so many years of wear on the carby. I added them in after 29 years of use on my mower.

I don't know if they done away with the G4 and the idle screw in 1978, as my original full crank commando from 1982 had the G4 with the idle adjustment screw fitted from new.

Well that's all I can go on because it's the one and only mower that I know has been in the family since brand new. I don't know what others out there may have come across but maybe they ran most full cranks out with these idle screw G4 carbies?

Then when they went to the new powertorque engines in 1984 or so I think all the new PT engines where fitted with the LM carby with no idle adjustment.

G'day Mowerfreak,

Yes I had a read through that post and well I know my mower from new had that wavy washer installed for the carby and it also has the exact same carby as the one featured in the article which I have added with this post.

Also that article featuring the exact same carby as on my mower was from November 1978. And in that article it was saying that to simplify ordering and stock quantities, only one carburettor assembly will be supplied as replacement of G4 and LM carburettors, and that is the one featured in this article. Well that's the exact same carby on my 1982 full crank Commando fitted from new.

Maybe they fitted these idle screw G4 carbies to the full crank engines right up to the early 80's?

Then they only fitted the non idle screw LM carbies to the new powertorque engines from 1984 and onwards?

It's a bit of a mystery...lol

Cheers!

I learn something new everyday. It seems I was muddled over that detail regarding the idle screw cap. It seems they deleted the dial much later than I thought. I'd love to get my hands on the grey cap. It looks nice on the LM.

I think I still have some new cams here, if I have I will measure one and compare it to an old one and see if there is any sign of wear on it

Hello gents,

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I did promise to upload a table with carby poppet settings! So here it is, attached. I hope it can be of use to others.

Thanks MS,

Thats really interesting. I was surprised at the differences in the factory settings. I have noticed that some PT's seem to run slower than others but never really understood why. Its something that many of us who keep our carbys and spare parts in a box all mixed up should be aware of.

I can remember complaining to the dealer who sold me my new 1988 Victa Bronco that it did not scream like they used to. He said they weren't supposed to.

Even the settings for my beloved Super 24 are different to the others, jets as well.

Is trhere any way that these parts can be identified? They all look the same to me.

All the best
Jeff

Hello Jeff,

No worries. Sorry it took so long to get around to it.

From memory, the jets can be identified from the number of rings on their face? I'll take a look at my book and get back to you.

Funny you mention the different noise from PT motors. My trusty Gumtree special ate a bolt and hasn't quite been the same since. Now that I have finished my Scott Bonnar I'll have a decent look at it, but that motor was a gem. Revved like a have always remembered. It's on a Commando from about 2001, and seems to run faster than the red one I salvaged for my sister in law. I figured it was because it had a bigger intake pipe and straight through intake from carby to port.

However, after it ate the bolt, I went to the mower shop ready to join the world of 4 stroke mowers. LUCKY FOR ME they had only two brand new Commando 2 strokes left. A steal at $450 especially when I was prepared to drop twice that on a Kawasaki powered Masport. I brought it home fully expecting it to rev like my old one, but it didn't. It has a smaller snorkle, but still straight through from the carby to intake port. Perhaps all the old ones I've used have had air leaks?! đŸ˜†
