If I may bring a point to everyone's attention and that is the clutch halves that are currently being sold through various sellers may well be a reject as [b]just about every new replacement unit that's been located around Australia at this present time is not good for service.

If it's the smaller 5/8 variant you require I would first test fit it onto the shaft of the engine prior to Thrust bearing fitment and painting and see if it's a nice snug fit with no wobble whatsoever. If there's any wobble then take it back and get a refund as there's no way you can fix it and it only replicates what an old flogged out clutch half would do in every way. GA Spares are well aware of this issue and are accepting returns and refunds to the original purchasers which are businesses buying from them. The business must refund you the end user.

If you are buying a new engine then I would strongly recommend you purchase the larger 3/4 shaft power plant and then get the clutch half to suit as there's no issues with the 3/4 units at all. I've just had to do this for my neighbours machine that I've finished restoring.

What the problem is with the smaller 5/8 castings is that they come straight out of a mould ready to fit and are not line bored, whilst the 3/4 units are all originally 5/8 units and then line bored out to 3/4. This means there's no element of error with those. Sadly all these clutches are being made in good ol' China and their quality control isn't very good at all and these units are suffering shrinkage out of the mould, thus the original 5/8 centre hole is not perfect at all.

This Thread will be removed from here once GA Spares have sorted this Australia wide problem out.

Cheers,
BB.

Thanks TC,

This has been an issue that's mucked many people around over the past month or so and it's good to keep all the good folk on here up to speed so as to avoid massive arguments with retailers that like to be stubborn.

Believe me I've had my share with a particular Adelaide retailer that didn't want to listen and then had to eat plate loads of humble pie and it cost him dearly after I originally suggested my solution as mentioned in the above post and then after refusing it came up with the same idea as I did initially. WT?........ I then asked, so when do I get an apology ??

No such luck.

It always pays to be on the front foot I say.

Cheers,
BB.

Thanks for the information Bonnar Bloke I remember you talking about this issue on my 33 post I followed your advice and went for the 3/4 shaft motor and 3/4 " 45 clutch and it has worked out fine. It runs quiet well now.

Thanks

Shaun
