Hi All,

Haven't finished this MTD mower yet , just thought I would show people how easy the Honda starts and runs
on LPG when adapting an old motorbike carby to run straight LP gas.

Cheers
Max.

Disadvantages of LPG. It produces 10% less power, compared to petrol, on the same engine. Its Ignition temperature is higher than that of petrol, it leads to 5% less lifetime of valves.

Have a pile on Honda motors here ,If I don't use the Honda .motor it's just scrap metal.

G'day Bonnar_Bloke ,

Sorry Bonnar_Bloke I have a few but they are on mowers ,the interstate courier fee would be more than buying the GCV 160
in Adelaide.

They are cheap motors to buy in the US new.

Cheers
Max..

Ended up using a Victa throttle control and a modified Talon air filter ,a couple of pics below.

I prefer the Honda motor with LPG compared with the 4Hp LPG Briggs I had on the mower previously.

Hi Max, I guess the big advantage is you don't have to worry about sticking float needles or float bowl gaskets leaking, LOL

Hi Norm, correct and I could leave the mower in a shed for ten years and then it would still start up no problem with old LPG.

Not much chance of getting water in the carby or tank and no way to get a fuel blockage also no fuel evaporation .

The Honda runs smoother on LPG .

LPG vapour takes up to 30% more area in the manifold and carby than petrol which is still in a liquid state that's
why I installed a larger carby than standard so I shouldn't have lost any noticeable power.

Cheers

First time I have seen one of these carbs as a kit on ebay

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Carbure...n-Mowers-Garden-Carbs-Tool/193781061528?
technically for a gx, but conversion to a gxv shouldn't be too hard (though may have to reverse throttle as I would expect them to be reversed)

Yes Ebay have had them for years Tyler ,only thing is the converter being under the carby means it will
fit a generator / water pump but probably won't fit on a mower without modifications.

The Impco small engine lpg kit will fit a mower https://www.ebay.com/itm/LOW-PROPAN...303445-309447-294447-303447/181190873896

You can buy a LPG carby from LEHR that's lpg only.

The only problem with my mower is I have no governor so I just adjust the throttle with the rpm at 3300 and cut
the grass but if the grass if really high the rpm drops a fair amount ,I was thinking of going to 8 hp or just
fitting a SU type of carby with a vacuum controlled slide .I guess it wouldn't be too difficult to make a vacuum controlled
fuel enrichment system so when vacuum drops a little extra lpg will supply the engine.

Cheers
Max.
