This Mowfast kick start came up near me and I grabbed it, first I have seen. Will be quite a job to find or make the missing bits. Still great to have as part of my Mowfast collection.

G'day Paul
That's brilliant!
I feel this is a great addition to the Collection.

It's rare to find any of the kick starts fitted to these.
Best guess, most were converted to lanyard start as parts failed (over the years)

This is a Mofast 15" Kick Start, and not a Walton's 'Park Lane' store brand
copy of the little Mofast. That's my best guess, anyway.

Only an astute collector would have seen the value - and importance -
of this little Australian rotary lawnmower. smile

Hi Jack,
Thanks for the pics. It’s good to have a clear pic of the starter and drive dog.

All the best
Paul

Hi Jack,

I am pretty sure that the Kickstarter mechanism are the same parts used on Atco cylinder mowers, why reinvent the wheel?

Has the same number of teeth on the large segment and even the three rivets look the same.

Hi Jack,

Having a better look at the Mofast lever and it looks to be a pressed metal type rather than the cast one I posted above used on Atco.

Hi Paul
I think so, too.

I think Mofast engineered the kick lever specifically for
the little Trojan engine.

There appears to have been only three other AUS rotary makers that
used kick starters: -

Champion: -
https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/79096/champion-senior-kick-start-model.html

Austral-Villiers: -

Scott Bonnar: -
https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/u...2-31-the-first-spincuts-c1956-c1958.html

Each one presents as locally designed to suit imported engines.
Each approach is different.

All great examples of Aussie ingenuity!

Cheers

Gidday Paul and Jack,

Great rare find getting your hands on a Mofast kick starter mower Paul.

I think Paul is on to something with the Atco starter, the riveted meshing teeth for
the kick starter look the same for Atco and Mofast. (9 teeth)

At least you could use that part of the Atco starter.

Cheers
Max.

Hi Jack & Max,

Thanks for the links Jack, it all helps. Max an Atco starter looks the best option and if the stars align perhaps the pivot point would be on the right spot.

Great pictures of a kick start Mowfast. The one I have is also missing the kick lever, return spring and sprocket and pawls. Mine has the finger tip height adjustment and has a red base, blue handle, and swing back blades. It hasnt been repainted at all. I will look today to see if I have a serial number on it apart from the engine number.

So I checked out my Mofast today and copied the only number on it I could find. The engine number is MX39678, then I realised that had called it a Mowfast rather than its correct name of Mofast.
regards,
Dale

Hello Dale
Many thanks for the engine number as it now goes to your machine's provenance.

'Mofast' is frequently misspelled 'Mowfast' in the same way
that 'Tecnico' is often misspelled as 'Technico'.

Your machine appears to be in great condition.
I hope you find the kick-start parts.

Cheers
