Hello
ODK history lovers
News Cuttings was Victa’s official news publication to its dealer
network. Introduced in the late 1950s, it would be no more than
a few pages in length.
This
late 1964 issue is of interest; because it somewhat covers
the 1965 range at the start of the season. But this edition does
so much more … This is an eclectic edition.
The
front page covered three stories and a filler … about dogs
in Victa TV commercials ...
The
lead story, “
Papers appreciative of our new service”, covers
Victa’s ‘editorial service’ offering free feature articles on lawn
and lawnmower care. I have been so far unsuccessful
in locating one popular feature, “
The Man who made
Life so much easier”, about Merv Richardson.
The
second article covers Victorian State politician, F. Mitchell,
and his well-travelled Rotomo.
The
third article is about the
Queensland Betta Group's trip to the
famous ‘Gabba’ cricket ground for a Victa presentation of the 1965 Victas.
The
second page has images of
Service Schools held at
Townsville and
Launceston; and what a happy, gender inclusive bunch they are …
Then there is dealer advertising support blurb and some interesting facts …
Page Three is a fantastic dealer page – covering Melbourne’s
J.H. Chandler,
and Sydney’s
Whirlwind Sales. The latter dealer is of some interest …
it would appear that this company continued on after Whirlwind ceased
mower manufacture (?) Any ideas?
Page Four follows the usual format – Service Guide, Short Cuts
and Victa Wise. In this regard, the
Service Guide N0 26 covers the
carby linkage on Kirby
VK30 and
VK40 engines. There is also an
article on the
Hannams company, a Victorian electrical appliance and
Victa dealer
