Hi,

As the title suggests Im having issues with throttle control. Recently snapping the throttle cable didnt help but even once a temp repair was made, any form of throttle applied will kill the engine.

The diaphragm was replaced and some carby cleaner used, however it has always chased its revs when in use.
The governor spring was also replaced but doesnt seem to have much control over the throttle above the carby at all.

I was told its an issue with the carby which Id like to replace completely and keep it genuine or would I be better off completely replacing the motor?

Thanks,

Reece

080202-2324-01 Air vane governor setup.

On these engines the fuel tanks tends to rust. This rust can enter the carburetor main tower and clog the metering passages causing lean burn that sounds like you're experiencing. It would take someone with the experience of removing and replacing the steel balls to clean out these passages. Since most don't have this knowledge it is best just to replace the carburetor, add the filter screen below, and if need the fuel tank.

This problem of clogging could have been prevented if only the setup had the 691213 filter screen in place with but according to the IPL this engine wasn't setup with the screen installed. This still doesn't resolved the problem of the fuel tanks rusting.

Thats great information thanks.

Do you happen to have a link for said carby as Ive searched high and low but cant seem to locate the correct items.

Thanks again

Hello Reece and AVB
Reece, AVB is a Senior Technician on Briggs.
He certainly knows his stuff!

I do know that, on these old Briggs, any wear in the throttle butterfly shaft
may cause these symptoms. Any manual moving (by hand) of the throttle shaft should be able to
check engine response - being related to the carby, or external things - carby gasket, filter,
gov spring ...

I attach a modern manual for your Model and Type.

Hope this helps.
