PART TWO - The KBC Juice ExtractorI would have to say that my KBC juicer is in good original condition, retaining most of
the original paint ... a nice cream colour.
Made with about a dozen separate parts, the body and press arm are in cast aluminium,
the pulp collector and pivot arm in stainless steel. There are rubber foot mounts.
This was a table-top mounted machine operated by hand.
What killed-off the manual KBC Juice Extractor?
Why, the advent of
cheaper household electrical appliances.
KBC's own electric mix-master, for example, had its own juice extractor attachment!
1950s Australia was a time of growing prosperity and the appliance market took care
of that. Australian working-class households - for the first time - experienced new
powered gadgets - to make household chores more enjoyable. The powered
lawnmower, the electric shaver, hand drill, vacuum cleaner, floor polisher, transistor
radio, radiogram, TV, refrigerator, washer - and whatever ...
all became within reach and made available to working-class Australians.
The rest is history.--------------------------------------
