Hi all, ive a evolution 3 12.5 and has 1300 hrs on the hour meter, has a honda on it now, so im wondering if its worth spending the money on it to revive the old girl, the honda engine is only 12mths old done little work, but the drive system needs some major attention, lots of wear and goes through drive belts fast, ive been to my local greenfeild dealer but they made it sound very complicated and not worth doing, better to buy new mower, ive had the drive section apart, and to me all needs to be replaced. we got the mower with the place when we bought it, i found the ownwers manual for it, and all the part nos, which is great, so wondering if anyone has done on up, and does it work out cheaper then buying a new one?, cheers

Hi gheko, welcome here. Greenies have a cult following, ( not that political mob the mowers)so the simple answer to your question is if you can use spanners you can fix your Greenie. You have to understand the dealer has to charge $80/100 an hour to work on your machine so very quickly the costs add up. Plenty of people here happy to help you with any questions you have

Thanks for the reply, i havnt priced any parts yet need to find a dealer whos happy to to do it, the local one here just doesnt seem interested in helping, first thing is to strip it down as there is a large crack in the chassis, bonus in finding the manual, shows everything very well, only thing missing is the original fuel tank, the one on the honda motor only holds around 2ltrs, im assuming had to remove the original tank to fit the honda on, ill have to take some pics as i go, as im sure ill need help somewhere along the way. cheers

Hi gheko, there is a reason why the tank is missing, it is impossible to run the cable for the Honda with the original tank in where it fits. Been there, done that, and I really had to fudge it all up to get it to work and not something I could explain or suggest somebody try and was only possible because the governor was not working. Try ODK here I'm sure they can get the parts you need. Unusual for the Greenfield chassis to crack, not something that is a common problem

hi gheko, i wouldn't recommend attempting a Greenfeild drive rebuild with no
previous experience, while they are simple machines, the drive setup has to
be done properly for it to function right, with grave consecenses if not.
all parts should be available, but the cost will be high if it's flogged out as you say.
( expect $400-$500 as a guide ).
it's not uncommon to find cracked frames and flogged out front ends etc, they
are tough machines that are generally cained for many years, so able to be repaired to cost
ratio will be totally up to you...
just keep in mind that old flogged out machines arn't worth that much anyway..
