I have had mixed success with lawn sprays. No problem with roundup. I mainly use KambaM which is a selective weed spray. 100 ml to 15 lt of water 100 sq m ,with a surfactant and a dye. I have sprayed a few lawns over the past month mainly for sour grass and a few broadleaf weeds. After a week the weeds yellowed but then seemed to come back. I'm in southern Victoria, a very wet July and cold temperatures. I think my mix and coverage is correct and I'm guessing my failure is the wet conditions and cold temperatures. I sprayed on days of no rain. Maye I should start spraying in late august.

Hey mate,
Most lawn sprays are based on a repeat spray program. I am doing some chemical efficacy work at the moment for APVMA and they are all on a 28 day (4 week) repeat spray. You will get more efficacy if it is warmer as the stomata on the plant is more open and you get more entry into the plant cell. If you spray when its too hot you will get a chemical phytotoxic burn as its more of a heat burn of the chemical on the leaves. Ideal temps for spraying would be between 18-30c. Have you ever used a delta t table, you probably read about one when you got an ACDC licence? They can help you get the best out of spraying.

G'day folks,
KambaM can be used as either blanket or spot spray. I usually use it as spot, at the same dilution ratio bellarinelawns uses. I don't add surfactant, as it doesn't seem to make any difference to the broadleaf weeds I target - it wets them OK.

My first spray for the new season was early this week, and the weeds are showing the effects. I'll do a followup spray in about a fortnight.

As the DFU say, it is best used when the weeds are actively growing - so not in the depths of winter. And when the weeds aren't wet, and at least 4 hours before rain is expected. Other than that, KambaM isn't too finicky regarding conditions.
It is fine to use on Couch lawns, but not Buffalo, Lippia or clover.
Info downloads are at http://www.nufarm.com/AU/ProductInformation

The most finicky lawn weed sprays I've used are the Paspalum killers, actives DSMA and MCPA [from Brunnings and Barmac]; - it's a waste of time applying them on days with peak temps <25C. These ones definitely need a surfactant adjuvant, too.

Cheers,
Gadge
