Hi Everyone,

My first post for quite a few years now when I used to own an old Victa Compact. I have recently acquired this base which has been painted up by the previous owner and I am having trouble identifying what model it is so that I can look for a replacement engine.

Does anyone have any ideas..??





Not sure if those are the original wheels, I still have the front pair also have the handles and grass box if it would help. Seems to have the "safety hinged flap" which the previous owner thought might be for mulching?

I note that you're from England.
I guess we must keep in mind that export models varied from AUS
machines - with some models not appearing in AUS at all.

This one is tricky - a 1970s base with a twist. It appears to take
a 4-stroke engine, but with a dress cowl that screwed into the
top of the alloy chute. I can't say I recall any of our 4-strokes that
did that.

However I do know of an export Mustang Electric model with the same style of
wheel as yours, and a dress cowl that affixed to the chute.

I wonder whether the electric engine adapted to the 4-stroke
high-arch base from the period, and you have a Mustang Electric?

Any thoughts?

Bugger..!!

As much as I really didn't want to hear that.... looking into it.. you are bang on!!

I found this parts manual for sale on ebay and it shows exactly what I have, right down to the white plastic covered top handle:





I must admit, when I saw the holes in the top handle in different positions to where the snorkel filter should be I was confused, I never realised Victa made electric models.

Oh well, what a shame. Apart from having next to no chance of finding a replacement motor for this base, and even if I did (despite being an electrician) I really have no interest in electric lawn mowers. I was really looking forward to hearing that noisy thud and the smell of 2-stroke oil again..!!

Really appreciate you help with this Jack, I will probably just scavenge a few parts from it now and I suppose the automatic safety flap maybe useful for the VC160/Impala, although the lightweight wheels don't even have any bearings..!!!

Co-incidently, the ad you posted also advertised the Compact 125cc, my 1st Victa, I loved that mower. I can remember taking it to the tip one day thinking that the end bearings were shot as it sometimes made a horrible growling noise, I have since learned that this was probably due to the blade boss slipping on the driveshaft... What a terrible shame..!!

That's good information you give on an unusual Victa, that didn't sell
on our shores, and probably didn't sell too well in the UK either.

Yes, Victa have been making electrics for about 35 years.
In the early eighties, they were also selling Qualcast electric mowers
(re-branded here as Victas).

Most Victa collectors have no interest in electric mowers here either.
