I have a briggs engine which will only run full throttle when the choke is about 1/4 of way closed. Have rebuilt carb and checked intake gasket for leaks . All seems to be fine.

Albert279, Please supply more info on the engine like model type and code. It could be incorrectly installed or just a mixture issue.

Hi Albert,
When you say rebuilt did you replace the gasket and throttle linkage? If it's not a restoration jobby I would just be updating the carb and fuel tank to a primer set up.

I used to get that problem every year or so on one of my Honda 216's. It always turned out to be a blockage in the carb which a strip and clean would remedy. I started fitting little inline fuel filters to my fuel lines and haven't had the problem since.
Perhaps this is the case with you, and when you rebuilt the carb you missed a small bit of foreign matter in a sensitive passageway. I always flush out the passages from all sides using a pressure can with the little pipe attached. Engine degreaser would do or CRC say, but I wouldn't use a carb cleaner product unless you are positive there is no rubber or plastic components in there because carb cleaner causes rubber to swell.
