I picked this engine up from a friend of mine, it was locked solid and full of water. Australian made by Pecision Engineering in Sydney. It is of course a Briggs and Stratton clone engine, Amplion also manufactured a clone as well. I have recently acquired an Amplion and there are some minor differences in the build.

CyberJack supplied some material showing the genset which I believe mine was once a part of. I found army green paint on mine so maybe it's an ex army unit.

Here is a manual for it which covers all of the clones and is free to download from Briggs and Stratton

:-) I have a block with a very good bore for a Briggs, interesting thing is that there is no markings on the Briggs block but Amplion put there name on the camshaft moulding. Precision left theirs unmarked as well

I used the piston that came with the Amplion block as it was the better one

All went together nicely, cleaned up the points and checked for spark. Nothing !

Hi Paul,

You started with an unknown engine, as you have brought both the
name 'Precision' and your engine back to life (almost).

I do feel this was a war contract machine.

Cheers

p.s. I love the Edison Albanite plug and your feeler gauge.

I now have an Amplion engine that was made to run a washing machine. It sits very low with the fuel tank mounted on the lower front of the cowl. Fitted with a suction type carb and a kick starter. It is another Briggs & Stratton clone engine. It must be a pretty rare little engine because I can't find any information on it at all.

G'day Paul and Members

Thanks for sharing the videos and recording this engine.

That this engine was used on a washing machine is unusual in AUS.
In the USA they were extremely popular with rural America prior to
electrification. To find any petrol-powered washer here is not common.

In Amplion advertising here, the engine was a general purpose, but ads
refer to pumps, saws, milking, honey extractors, compressors, sprayers,
separators, grinders, generators, lawnmowers, but no ... washers.

I don't know why. It may be that rural Australia prior to WWII simply
did not have the wealth - that a working class nation could not do this...?
Amplion engines only became available post WWII when rural Australia was
becoming 'electrified'. Maybe the market never existed here.

I know that Briggs and Maytag made specific washer engines, but I cannot find
specific reference to this application in this country.

Any thoughts?

Hi Guys,

Pretty new to the forum and haven't posted previously.

I recently picked up an Amplion Generator set which appears complete but not working.

Also a Jonson Chore Horse Generator set which appears to have a shorted armature.

Looking for any info which may help on the generator and motor side

Once I work out how to upload a photo of them I will.

Thanks,
Dail
