Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if spares are available for the mighty Victa twin? I am after a new magneto for it, and maybe even a set of pistons and rings.
In lieu of a new magneto...I read a reference on this forum to someone using two single magnetos instead, could someone provide a link or further information on how this is done?
Cheers,
Brendan

I have a feeling they stopped making spares, I have heard that the engine was made in canada, and that it may be possible to get new coild from their, but i have had no luck with that myself.
I will have a ring around, and see if i cant hlep you out with more info on the ings, and perhaps the 2-coil idea.
Or maybe see if I cant help you fiond a working 2nd hand coil.
Cheers Ty

Thanks mate, that would be great. Mine was working, but had weak spark and im pretty sure by the end it was only running on one cylinder. I pulled it apart to clean and fix the carb and now I cant get spart at all, I think I have pulled one of the wires of the coil...would be very keen to get a new one as I love this mower.

Very common issue, there was a persistant problem with the twin coil that often saw it supply a weak rear spark, and eventually none.
The problem dates as far back to the times of the twin, as it was one of the reasons it was quickly superceded with the supreme.
The supremem was advertised as having a "Revised Coil"

If you really wernt all for originality you could probably use the points to switch 2 car ignition coils powered with a 12v sla battery, I did that back at the very beginning of my mower collection with a full crank victa.
I do have saved somewhere here how to do a twin powertorque coil conversion, it however is a patch not a fix, generally it will start on one cylinder and the other will pick up once the engine gets a little speed behind it.

Im not too fussed about originality as mine is missing a catcher and the cowls pretty ordinary. I do however want it to work and would be happy to use any setup to get her going well. Given that both cylinders fire at once it should be pretty easy to rig up a couple of coils to fire at once....would I only need one set of points to do this?

here is an old post from ages ago:
Hi Stephen. I thought you may like to know another way I have got my twin going on 2 plugs. I checked out the Bantasaw suggestion and from what I see it's only an ignition module NOT a full coil. Here's whats working for me. Get 2 coils off power torque motors. Your local mower shop should oblige getting some second hand ones. Pull one coil off the "U" shaped former and push it onto the twins old "E" shaped former. (twin coil removed first of course). Bolt it on as the original twin coil would, but here is the magic. Wire the second coil primary IN SERIES with the one up at the flywheel. Hook up a Victa ignition module as per normal. Mount the second coil up the front near the front plug, and the lead from the back coil should reach the back plug. Mine fires up well on the back plug and the front plug comes in quickly when the motor starts to warm up. I have acheived full power no worries at all. My hope is the ignition module will live a long life. Lets hope. If you need more info I'm happy to help.

Interesting.
Ive got a mate thats a bit of an electronics guru. Im going to run that past him to try and get some of the finer details through my thick head. I think i got zapped by too many electric fences when i was a kid, electricity is just not my thing.

Sorry Mate, Iv'e never seen one, I can't see it being too complex, as both cylinders fire simultaneously, but I have nothing specific as to the wiring or how you would go about mounting them.
Cheers Ty

Seriously it would just be a lot easier to get a second-hand coil.Which model twin is it? Is it red, green or gold? As I said much much easier just to get another coil.Chances off finding a new coil very slim, but second-hand would be much easier.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

I know it may seem like overkill but when I needed parts for a Twin I just bought another one to wreck it out for parts.Got the part I needed and now I have other spares I can and will use.

G'day Brendon, You CAN get some rings for these engines. Contact Grahame Burling on 02 9452 5784. The size code is 48 x 3/32 x .070" . www.gsburling.com.au I have spoken to Grahame and he carries this size as a stock item. I ordered a set this week - 13/10/15. Please note that these are STANDARD bore size rings - if you want oversize (unlikely) you may be in trouble but speak to Grahame anyway. NOW, IF ONLY THERE WERE A SOURCE FOR THE SPLIT NEEDLE ROLLER BEARINGS FOR THE BIG END AND THE WEIRD SIZE ROLLER BEARINGS FOR THE LITTLE END................ anyone know of any ? If anyone knows better than me how these forums work might like to spread the word on the piston ring contact in a new topic or the relevant section.
Cheers, wombatini, 9/10/15
