I have just scored my first lawnmower, it has the following writing on it: -

Victa VC400
Victa New Generation Mowers
Concept Victa 4 stroke
Tecumseh 38
TVS90 46113F (C) 9193 J

My uncle gave me this - he got it approx 7+ years ago, got it home and then put it straight in his shed where it has not moved from since - never cut a lawn. He did see the mower run before he took it home.

When I got it I took it straight to a mower shop where the bloke had a quick look - said the oil looked fine but got a new air filter as original had a bit of rust on it.

Got it home but it wouldn't start - a mate had a look and discovered carb was completely blocked full of thick black greasy looking gunk. Carb was given a clean in petrol & now mower fires up but is running slowly and roughly.

When I actually start the mower with throttle on full revs the carb is barely opening at all, and the revs are uneven (motor revs rise and fall while running). If I back the throttle off much the mower stops. When I play with the throttle adjustment on the carb itself the mower revs harder like I imagine it should do.

With mower off & throttle on full revs, the carb appears to open all the way - and with mower off & throttle off, the carb appears to be fully closed.

Any ideas of how to fix this would be great,
thanks, Scott
