Hello ODK History Lovers,

Robert Philpott Pty. Ltd. made the Minter Mower. They were sold from about 1955 - 1959.
The business was located somewhere on North Rocks Road, North Parramatta.

They were mostly conventional in design but with two significant features:-
[1] Curiously, they had a double row of wheels at the back - 4 wheels!
[2] Their real claim to fame is that the Minter may be the first rotary with a single
point height adjustment.
Philpott patented it. [See next posting]

The machine had an 18" cut and had swing-back blades.
The first engine used was an 98cc Midget, made by Villiers.

The First Minter Mowers

The first Minter Mower was very much conventional, with its classic Mowhall/Victa inspired
"toe cutter" or "plough disc" base.

I have said that its unique features were the quad rear wheels, and, most importantly,
the single point height lever. This machine is, arguably, the first Australian rotary to
use a single point height lever. Pretty much everyone would follow this concept.

Here are some auction photographs of an original condition Minter. The handle-mounted fuel tank
is missing, but I believe the original colour has been preserved.

The Patent

The patent was lodged on May 29, 1956. The actual inventor was Robert Philpott.
The lever and ratchet system can be seen in the photograph and illustration below:-
