nice one mate.

I just got home from a working trip to find my new twin had arrived. Not quite what I was expecting - it looked better in the photos. Still $35 cant go wrong. Now I need a new cowl and catcher but with a bit of tinkering it should fire up. Well used with a chunk of alloy missing from the base and a bad crack in the cowl the engine was seized but I managed to persuade it to move.

Can't be bothered with it right now but I'll get to it at some stage.

Would be interesting to see just what else the old bloke had in the shed!

Pete.

The rear cylinder decompressor hose was off.
There is no wireing for shutoff.
I am not sure what the poppet valve should be set at for this mower.
Any ideas ODK

Doesn't really matter where the poppet valve sits just so long as it seal up.Where are the wires for the kill switch? One should come from the coil pack and the other one should have been bolted to the cooling cowl. Not that it really matters if the wires aren't there but the carby could very easily fill up with dirt and then get thrown into the engine.I guess for safety reason it should also have it on and working properly.

Well Yes you could block the hole if you wanted, but for safety sake I would fix it so it does work, but as a short term fix yes it could be blocked off.
The job of the decompression value,or should I say jobs.
1.To make it easier to start,as without it it could and would kick back, and believe me it hurts.
2.Helps to keep the engine from over-revving by releasing the compression at its highest end, therefore helping in slowing the engine down and keeping it within a safe rev range.
That's why when somebody asks me when they have problems with a decompression value and want to replace it with a spark plug I always say no and advice them of why.
After all Victa just didn't install them so they could make extra money,it was put there for a reason. As listed above.
I hope that makes sense.

No it doesn't matter where the poppet value is positioned just as long as it seals properly. No you don't need to prime it twice as much. They don't use much fuel.In fact they use less than a 160cc.

These manuals are hard to find they do come up on eBay from time to time.
This is what the cover looks like.

It does matter where the poppet is placed.
If it has letters on the bottom, they have to line up with the spray nozzle inside the carby.
