Good thinking, Buckets. I've re-opened your thread and merged Billiesuki's into it. Looking forward to you answering his question, with more of your excellent pictures.

Billiesuki, it does indeed have a gear box oil thingy grin

Just top it up via the dipstick, use Castrol Hypoy C80/90 or equivalent.

Seeing as it appears that the gear box oil has never been changed, now might be a good time to do it (see pic 2)

From the rear of the machine undo the 4 bolts that hold the back plate on (it makes it easier) and you will see the drain plug (arrowed), drain oil after driving around to get it hot.

From memory it takes around 600 - 700ml so you only need to purchase 1lt.

Now as far as the maintenance manual manual goes there is none as such, the most I have been able to find is from this guy (Terry) on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Deutsche...pt=AU_Lawnmowers&hash=item4d2a89e227

He has compiled notes from his experience with Deutschers over the years and they actually cost you nothing, so are well worth getting plus he has hard to get spare parts if required.

Any other questions, just ask and I and others will attempt to do our best for you.

Regards
Buckets

Hi,

Bringing up an old thread.
Am hoping that someone may be able to throw some light or at least throw me in the right direction. A month or two I found an old thread on Outdoorking in regards to a Honda GV400 engine. It needs new rings put into it, and after pulling the engine out, and trying to split it, got to a point where I needed to remove the Deutscher installed extended shaft on to the Honda's output shaft. Posted some pics into that thread, and received an answer or two. "How do you get this thing shaft off?"

Have tried and tried, with various pullers, and even spent a few hours trying to make up my own brutal puller, which didnt work.
Was hoping that someone with some Deutscher experience with a Honda GV400 could just simply say "you do this whilst holding your tongue to the left, and off it pops"

Any info would be dead set highly appreciative. Has now been nearing five months that I've been at this...

Pics wont upload; might need to update Flash. Back in a minute.

Wonder if this will work:

Have been told that the top output shaft apparently is on a separate spline shaft of the output of the Honda engine. Correct? Have tried downloading the owners manual and so far I can't see how it all falls apart. Perhaps I am reading the manual incorrectly.

Cheers for any info, pointers, help at all.

Bushy555, sorry I can't help you with your problem, but I notice you are located in NSW.

There is a guy named Terry, who is located in Tahmoor NSW who is a dead-set guru when it comes to Deutscher's and various engines fitted to them.

If he can't help you I would be very surprised as he has around 90 odd secondhand Deutscher mowers of various descriptions that he strips and sells parts off.

You can contact him on 0431 548 501 or 02 4683 1140 or email tscanlon@webone.com.au.

He also advertises as "uncledougstuff" on ebay:

I can't really tell from the photo but is that possibly a circlip just below the splined section?

Buckets: Awesomeo!!
Will give him a quick email and see if he is interested in responding to some stranger with some strange request.
(If he replies, I will post up the answer, in case someone in the future has the same issue, does a google search and ends up here. Hi future person with same issue)

Aussietrev: Unfortunately it is not. It is indeed a spacer washer that is mounted up flush to the end of the shaft as a stopper washer. Or whatever it properly is called. "Stopper washer" just popped into my head. Stops things from falling off the end of the shaft. It needs to be removed from the other end.
I actually did start to cut the edge of this washer thingy with a 0.7mm angle grinder cutting disc, just to see what was underneath. Underneath says that the lower section of the shaft is thinner in diameter than that of the top bit that you can see. If I cut that stopper washer thing right off, the bearing , plate and pulley would still not come off due to spline bit being larger in diameter than their ID.

Have you had that little triangular plate with the three bolts off? Maybe access to something under there that joins the shafts?

Triangle plate, appears to be the access to the oil pump. (At least that is what it looks like to me).
Unfortunately there is no further access once the plate is off.

Anyway, Terry replied within hours, chockers full of info - three emails worth.
BIG massive appreciative thanks goes to him, for the info and even just for the time in replying to some complete stranger.

For the people doing Google searches in the future:
Google Meta search data: "HONDA GV400 Engine end spline shaft removal"

"The splined shaft is screwed into the motor crankshaft. Being protected from moisture and rust there it is usually easy to unscrew. Once it is removed you can then remove the remaining one piece pulley arrangement. As this is not protected from moisture and rust, and has been there for 20 years or more, it is usually a bastard of a job. It is very difficult to break the rust bond as the pulley is located with a square key. Gear pullers usually just distort the pulley. Heat treatment may work, I have never tried it. You may be lucky and have it pop off easily. Otherwise you could consider a replacement motor (Chinese $400 ??). I can supply a replacement pulley arrangement."

He also sent a number of files in relation to the engine. Happy to share to whomever. Probably won't see any future replies to this thread, unless I remember to physically check. Email me: bushy555@gmail.com ...and am more than happy to send them.

I'll have a crack at this over this weekend. Will try to remember to take pics and then post them up - for future reference for others.
Cheers.

"Bushy555" pleased that you have now have a bit of a heads up, on what is in front of you.

Heh. Dead set simple.
Put a big set of stilsons on to the shaft, gave it a tap, and it just came straight off (un screwed - anti clockwise). Couldn't believe it.
And because I have been pulling, pushing, hitting, slamming the engine for the past four months trying to get it off incorrectly, the pulley's just slipped straight off in my hands. I can easily see how it can be rusted in place and take a few tonne of a press to pull it off, but because I've been playing with it for so long --- just slipped off as though it was just sitting there.

All up, it took me about one minute and thirty seconds from picking up the stilsons under the bench to having the cover off and the two smaller lower shafts out.

Looks like I have a smashed valve stem push rod thingy which is stuck inside and is causing a full lock up upon the cam trying to push the valve push rod.

I use to own one of these ride on's and it is easy to use. On the left you have two bars which one is your speed and brake the other is your three gears forward, neutral and reverse. Now to operate the gears you need to put the brake on or otherwise you would stuff your drive gears under the motor. One more thing do NOT let little kids play on it or they will wreak it.

How I know this I once too did own the 260 which had the single wheels at the back yours is the 360 which as duel wheels at the back. But like I said you have to have the ride on in brake before you change from either forward, neutral or reverse. Not many people knew about this machine until I got my last ride on.

I will be getting another which it will be a 360 like yours and yes it does follow that same rule. Which I am looking forward to it.
