Hi , wondering if i could get a little advice please.
I have an old B&S , numbers 243431-0615-02-7509181, which is hooked up to a just as old generator.I have finally got it going with a bit of tinkering here and there, just does not seem to be running right to me.Wondering if anyone knows the settings for the screws in this carby. Have circled in yellow.

Have already stripped and cleaned carby, but not sure if either screw was set right from the begining, as top screw was approx 4 turns out and bottom one was approx 2 and 1/2 turns out.
Another quick question, would this be about a 11-12 hp engine.
Thanking you Paul.

Hi Paul. First, that engine was advertised as 10 hp. Here are the Operating and Maintenance Instructions for it:

Here is the Illustrated Parts list:

That is a large two piece flo-jet. The high speed jet (sticking out at 45 degrees low down on the left side) should initially be set at 1.5 turns from fully clockwise, and the idle jet (sticking out horizontally from the right side) should be 1 turn from fully clockwise.

As a sort of rule of thumb, if an engine comes to you with the settings ridiculously rich, the previous tenant had probably set them that way because the jets are seriously crudded up and they needed to be set ultra-rich for the engine to run, or the fuel line or filter is nearly blocked so the engine leans out as it runs, due to the float level dropping steadily. Also, in your picture the high speed mixture needle looks as if it is badly bent.

Hi Grumpy,, sorry about the delay, have been snowed under.

Thankfully i knew it was not a fuel delivery problem as i had already cleaned the whole fuel system, tank, fuel lines, carby etc, one thing you have taught me to do right from the start, so i knew it would have to be the jets. The high speed jet was screwed out approx 2.5 turns and the idle jet was out approx 1 & 3/4 turns.
Did take the high speed jet back out and yes it was bent, honestly not sure how i missed that. Got my hands on a brand new one, fitted it, set both jets as you suggested, now it is running smoothly at idling and picks up when needed. It is bolted to an old generator which would be about the same age as the motor. One heavy old beast, better now it is going again.
Thank you again for your help Grumpy,, it is much appriciated.

Thanks for reporting back, Paul - without a final report, a thread is pretty much useless to other members and visitors in future.

I'll close the thread.
