Maalste said his belt is fine, but he hasn't yet been back to tell us what kind of hydrostatic transmission is fitted. From our previous thread, I think it was a Tecumseh Peerless VST 705. This transmission was designed as a throw-away, and is not covered by the normal Tecumseh/Peerless workshop manuals. I understand it was sold primarily in Europe.
Maalste, the most common cause of the problem you reported is a slipping belt, and you need to check that by the recommended procedure. It is also possible that the problem is low fluid level, especially if it shows any signs of a transmission fluid leak. The fluid can be topped up, though this is not a normal service procedure, and involves removing the transmission.
