Hi Nige, and a warm welcome to the forum. It's always nice to welcome another Scott Bonnar owner on board. wink
I presume you are choosing a new engine for your Scotty because your previous engine has failed...my question is this...was your engine a Briggs or a Kirby Lauson (Tecumseh)? This will give us an idea of the age of your machine, and give us the PTO diameter (ie. diameter of your engine shaft) of your previous engine that has to mate with the inner clutch half of the cutter clutch.
There is a difference between them; one is 5/8" and the other 3/4".

A horizontal shaft Briggs of 3 HP. would suffice, but you do have choices...I have re-engined my machine with a Honda G100 2.5HP and have found it faultless for my 17" Scotty. wink
Looking forward to your reply and once again, :welcome: to OutdoorKing.
cheers2

Yes has failed so looking to re-power I had thought of a honda but wasnt sure the price was worth it ($500+?)
Its a later model with a 3.5hp B&S (black) on it.
Ill also be looking to sandblast it somewhere as well?

Righto Nige, now we need you to help us to help you.
We need you to post some nice clear pics of your machine using our forum inline uploader....Instructions for its use can be found HERE and also the Model, Type and Code on your old engine. This is stamped into the metal air-cowling somewhere near the carby inlet manifold:

Can you please post the whole string of numbers for us. Thanks Nige. wink

Re: Sandblasting, just look in the Yellow Pages for Sand, Bead or Grit blasting that's somewhere close to you and give them a call...What is it that you want blasted?

cheers

Was thinking of getting all my SB mower body parts blasted and primed?
Or would you suggest a more cost effective way?
Thank you for all your feedback!!

Hi Nige,
Blasting and priming is the way to go for a really good finish mate, it gets rid of all the old paint, rust etc.
You Briggs was made on the 10th September 1984 so it is 30 years old. wink
cheers
