Hi, have a Rover ride on, (Murray?)model no. 425621 x 108 c/d.It heats up and cuts out minutes into job, last time burning smell and smoke coming from the armature. Since then it will not start at all, a 15 amp fuse behind the solenoid keeps blowing when turning ignition key. My questions are, 1) is the overheating/ cutting out caused by a faulty armature and 2) is the fuse, no ignition a additional problem, suggestions appreciated, Cheers, Rod.

Hi Rod. We do not have any information on that Rover model number in the manuals section, so unless Bruce can upload something, we are stuck. The model number is also not recognised by the Murray web site.
We need a lot more information to understand what you are saying. First, what is the Model, Type and Code of the Briggs engine? Second, why is the starter motor activated when you are running the engine? Is it an all-in-one starter and alternator?
If you clarify these matters, and post some pictures, we can try to make a start, but unless we get access to the wiring diagram from the manual, it is going to be difficult.

Hi,this link came up when I searched for "Rover 425621 x 108c), the diagram appears to be accurate. Waiting on details re engine, I hope that these pics and the link to partstree open and the info is of some use, much appreciated, Rod. http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=murray&mn=7800303+-+425621x108C%2FD%2C+Lawn+Tractor+Rover+%282008%29&dn=19659 ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2014/03/full-5843-15759-2014_03_14_005.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2014/03/full-5843-15760-2014_03_14_001.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2014/03/full-5843-15761-2014_03_14_002.jpg) http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=murray&mn=7800303+-+425621x108C%2FD%2C+Lawn+Tractor+Rover+%282008%29&dn=19659

Thank you for posting the link to the wiring diagram Rod, that should be a big help when we know enough about the symptoms to put them into a context.
Please go ahead with giving us the Model, Type and Code information for the engine, so we can find the Illustrated Parts List for it. Equally urgently though, I need to have a clearer idea of what is happening.
Is the starter motor being activated when the engine is already running? That would have an ugly effect on the starter mechanism, and the associated wiring. If the starter motor sometimes starts running without you touching the multifunction keyswitch, there is an electrical defect in the keyswitch or the wiring attached to it. Please clarify whether this is what you are telling us. The only reason I ask about the starter motor is that you have indicated that the starter motor operating solenoid (your last photograph) is somehow implicated. That solenoid has no function other than to operate the starter motor.
You said that smoke was coming from the armature. The item marked "armature" on the wiring diagram is the ignition module, of which you have posted photographs. That Magnetron ignition module has nothing to do with the mower's electrical system. Is the problem with the ignition system, or the electrical system, or both? For background, we have had cases before when some previous tenant (owner of the mower) has become inventive and improved the wiring by connecting the Magnetron's kill wire to plus 12 Volts whenever the engine is running. When this happens, the Magnetron soon burns out, possibly emitting smoke as it does so. The kill wire has only one function: to stop the ignition when it is grounded. When the engine is intended to run, the kill wire must be floating (that is, neither grounded nor connected to a voltage). In this case, it seems conceivable that the evil deed of rewiring the kill switch to the wrong terminal of the ignition switch, also interfered with the starter wiring.

Hi, sorry for delay re getting back to you, ok, Model 31F777, Type 0318E1, Code 040524ZD. Sorry for confusing you, only included pic of solenoid to show area where 15amp fuse located. On inspection of the existing wiring compared to the wiring diagram it is evident that it has been " modified". Will attempt to rectify this wiring issue over next couple of days and continue this discussion with the result of the rewire, Thanks for pointing me in this direction, Rod.

Thanks for the data, Rod. That is an Intek engine, not a side-valve, which I had not known up until now. Here is the Illustrated Parts List: http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/18mmwHXDnfBhU7y.pdfHere is the Operator's Manual: http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/msuwEN-K_ny7tH217FzoPu.pdfYour engine was built on 24 May, 2004. When you have put your wiring into order and re-checked the machine's operation, we can move forward from there. By the way, putting some types of tenant's improvements right can be fairly difficult. I remember, without nostalgia, one case we had where an auto elec had installed a bridge rectifier in place of a single diode and apparently felt badly about having two left-over terminals on the bridge, so he connected them to two unrelated circuits. The resulting diagnostic outcomes were weird to say the least. Here is the thread: https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=34212&page=1
