Please help! Does anyone know where I can get a metal drive gear, and pinion, for my SB430?? I have tried Outdoor King with no luck, however others here seem to have been able to locate them. Sorry it appears to be an SB590 that I need the gear for.

Thanks Deejay, is the pinion gear still available, even a good second hand one? Mine is pretty badly chewed, however I might be able to pull it off and reverse it

Hi Kynan, just ask when you purchase the ring gear, I am sure something can be worked out satisfactorily for you.

Thanks again Deejay. I have had a look today at the reel and not sure how much 'meat' they need on the blades for long life, mine is about 5 mm from the top of the blade to the circular holder, is this enough?

Hi Deejay, I have included a pic of the reel. If it cannot be saved is it compatible with any other model as I dont beleive I will likely find another.

Hi Kynan, and thanks for posting the pic so promptly. Mate, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings....but that reel is shot and looks like it has had a hard life....especially with the wavy blade. It has had its chips. That reel is not compatible with an SB Model 45 nor any other model as far as I know. However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel, I have sent you a PM; (just have a look for a flashing envelope on the top toolbar next to "My Stuff") Please let us know how you get on.

It looks like it has plenty of meat on it, but yes the blades edge looks pretty wavy. I thought they straightened the edge before they turn the reel up the reel on the lathe. I recently had my reel sharpened on my 430, and it had less than 2mm of meat left on the reel. The machinist said thats fine.

Hi Jason and thanks for the post. If you take a close look at the blade depth above the center spacer on the blade in the background.....you will see there's not much "meat" left, and a blade that wavy may have to be replaced, as the whole blade is bent. It is just not worth it in the long run. But, that is just my opinion. for what its worth.

Hopefully its easy finding a replacement reel ![[Linked Image from i304.photobucket.com]](http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn186/greenmk2/IMG_20130225_185122_zpsd89e8cd3.jpg)

Hi all, good news, I managed to hunt down an original owner SB 430 whichc needs only a small amount of talc, however I'm going to give her an overhaul and freshen up. Currently the frame is in at the blaster. New drive, bearings, front roller and belt are in the post and hopefully will assemble over Easter! The old 590 has come in handy for a few parts and a spare catcher.
Does anyone know if the modern day neoprene cork gasket material is suitable to cut the clutch out of?
Hope to send pics soon, she will be hammertone charcoal greay as the only hammertone green I could get was a mint colour which would not have been technically correct either....

Hi Kynan, and thanks for the update. As you now have an SB 430 and doing a refurbish, this thread is now off-topic, and I will now close it. Looking forward to seeing the pics. If any member has anything to add, please PM a moderator.
