I have a Victa Vortex and i was wondering why they have the hard rubber thing around the outside of the blade cutter deck , if i was to put a new blade cutter deck on without this rubber thing what would be the out come ,

Sounds like your mower has the wiz bang Victa turbo disc! I think it is supposed to assist in the vacuum lift of the grass into the catcher but I am sure it's more marketing than actual performance. I doubt putting on a standard Victa 2 stroke disc will see any difference so Id go for it! smile

That would be good to find out again.I do remember being told what the idea was but I can't remember what it was again. So it would be good to have it here for future reference.

Is it the disc with the squarish holes in the disc?

The early vortex had a different disk with very short blades. It was pressed steel.
Have a couple here but dont have a pic.

The later Vortex (and the V40) had the 'turbo disc'. It is flatter than a regular oval disc and it has a large black rubber fan bolted to the disc. I think it was also used on a couple of different steel base models.

And minus the rubber fan the disc will work on a full crank utility with the short blades, the handle bolts foul on the normal oval disc. The early utilitys had a smaller round disc and longer than normal blades.

There is nothing to stop you changing to a regular oval disc.
I would also suggest you try a later 4 blade disc as well.

The regular oval disc with the later high lift/mulch (the wide ones) blades goes ok too. Just two of them is enough to blow the back door part open at full song. So the blades in the pic above on a normal disc.

I had a Victa Clubsman in the shed last night. Steel base mower, rectangular cover with built in tank. Flipped it over and it had the same blade plate as the 'turbo disc' but with no holes for the rubber fan.

So it looks like this disc might have been used on the low end mowers.

Well here are some pics of my Vortex , ended up fully reconditioning the motor since it had a fair amount of water in it , Gave it a polish up and with the help from you guys i did ended up putting a standard blade cutter deck on which works a treat , i was abit worried how it was going to perform by not useing a Turbo disc ,So far i have had one tank of fuel through it and it runs like a dream , now i am just wishing the grass would grow quicker so i could get the Vortex out more often ,
Thanks again guys for your help with this project ,
