WOW!? I never knew that.... I've used armorall for years and never had a problem.... maybe it's just me? I don't know....

Penetrene was the stuff I couldn't think of... banghead I've used it an linseed oil extensively on car interiors... and old lawn furniture...

I'm not clear on which version of Penetrene each of you is talking about. Internationally Penetrene is a horse linament, made up of 80% acetone, 11% menthol, and the remainder a couple of plant-based skunk oils. In Australia Penetrene usually means an oil-based local proprietary penetrating and rust preventing liquid (though the horse linament version is sold here, probably causing some confusion at times).

Personally I wouldn't be putting acetone on any kind of plastic object I wanted to keep in one piece.

To clear up, when I refer to Penetrene, I tend to be reffereing to the Penetrating Oil.

WD-40 can be substituted, but I have never found it near as effective, and for the above purpose (providing lubrication and rinsing during abrasive cleaning) I find WD-40 does not give near as nice a finnish, nor does it provide equivalent oiling to the damaged plastic during cleaning, which increases the risk of permanent damage.

Cheers
Ty

Yeah for me penetrene is a oil/some kind of cleaning chemical, as well as some kind of varnish...

I use boiled linseed oil, and have had great luck with it...

Mate, I'll do a bit of research for you, if they export the Penetrene I know to the US, I'll let you know, if you can find it, you'll never use any other penetrating oil again!!!

Mind you, it's not easy to find, every hardware store I can think of sells WD-40, singer oil, and many more, but so far I only know 1 source of Penetrene in Canberra!

Cheers
Ty

Supercheap and Repco stores sell it Ty. Also, I see at least one bulk merchant sells the 5 litre tins for under $40. Not that I can imagine having a use for that much of it myself, but paying $15 for a quarter of a litre annoys me.

Should have used hammertone paint that would have filled the scratches in,also it should have been done in hammertone from new.Any way it doesn't look that bad.Just as long as your happy with it.That's the main thing.

Did you spray it from a can or spray gun?
