my mower won't start.spudders a little.solid state ignition.when pull starting,every third or fourth pull, handle will jerk back out of my hand very hard.please help. thanks Todd

Sounds a bit like my mower (see my other msg, re: briggs&stratton), when the rope yanks your arm back, the timing is probably out. The method of correcting the timing will depend on the brand & type of your engine.

Your flywheel key is sheared, change
it and you should be ok

Tod,
Everyone that has answered your problem is correct but I would also check that the blade holder key as it could also be sheared or the blade plate could have a crack in it which will also put the timing out. Not many people know of this problem as they will go straight to the flywheel key because it is also the first to go but if it hasn't then check what I suggested.
