The engine, including the tank, looks the same as the one fitted to a Qualcast lawnmower in the late 1950s. On the one we had the tank was painted orange, though. The tank was fairly universal, it was not only fitted to Villiers engines. If you browse the Outdoorking archives you will find several pictures of the tank on Qualcast mowers and on other British products of the 1950s and perhaps early 1960s. The most recent picture was in the last week or so.
It was also fitted to Austral-Villiers rotaries from the late 50's also.

Thanks for the link grumpy, I had a look for it but couldn't find it.... That particular engine did have quite a lot of applications on British and Aussie mowers....I must admit it is a cute fuel tank!!

I think it is cute on a compact, inclined-cylinder, horizontal-crankshaft engine Deejay, but on that Austral Villiers with its tall vertical-crankshaft engine I think it just looks silly, rather like it was plastic and had got hot and slumped.
