Yeah I didn't go for the hammertone look. (Seems like I can't get hammertone in Canberra) I was going more for the show pony look.I did have a little bit of problems with the spray gun.So there are a few whoopees but I'm hoping I can get those out with a wet cut an buff.Fingers crossed on that part.

@Blumby. Your painting looks OK to me. Nice colour - what paint and what colour??

The reason why anyone cant get Plastic-Kote "Hammer" paint is that it has been bought out by Wattyl.
Here in SA we wont be able to get it until into the new year.
Which means I will have to put my NEW UTILITY painting on the back burner. I have been trying hither and yon to find this paint to no avail..
Oh well, have plenty more to go on with.

The paint was just air dry enamel and the colour is mint green.I'm not sure that it was the right colour. After looking at bases and videos and colour brochures of them I thought it would have been the closest colour to what they would have been, but once the colour went on I'm not so sure it was right.Anyhow it's done now and they do look good.

Hopefully where the paint blew up I will be able to wet cut and buff it out.

Well after trying to fix where the gun had blow stuff into the paint.I couldn't repair it by,wet cutting and buffing. So I have had to rub them back again ready for paint. So I've started a poll to see whether you all think I should change to a different colour. As maybe it should be a bit darker. As it really didn't turn out the way I thought it would.

Should I change the color?

As well as a bit darker they have always come at me as a tiny bit metallic, not full on like a metallic car paint just enough for the appearance of it.

Yeah I starting to think I should make them darker. It looked right on the colour chart, but not when it went on the bases or catcher plates.

I thought the back doors were black. But then i doubt ive ever seen one in good enough condition to be able to tell what colour its meant to be.

As a sign of individuality you could leave the back doors in that colour.

Catcher flaps were colour coded, about the only thing I painted wrong was the cutting disc.I painted it black it should have been like a winter wheat colour.

Hi all long time no post.OK after my poll I realized that everybody agreed with me that the colour I did the VC's in wasn't going to work out right. Now the last shop I went to couldn't get it right for me.So a big thanks goes out to Capital Auto Paints in Fyswick. They not only got the colour right and in hammer-tone,but they also did it a hell of a lot cheaper. In fact I got 4 litres of it for a faction over the price for one litre at the other shop.So here are some pictures let me know what you think.

This is the closed to the original colour that I could get.It was specially mixed and colour matched to the best sample that I had.I think this time I do have the right colour.I think that they look fantastic.

It looks rather like my 1976 4 stroke, but not quite as green and perhaps a touch lighter. Much more like it than your first try.

Yes they are much better now.It just pays to shop around.I'm glad I found this shop.It is hard to find as the shop is below street level,so if you don't go down there you'd never see it.All good now.
