How old is the motor?

Is it a Power Torque engine?

Can you remove the cylinder from the crankcase?

When you have answered some of these quesrtions I will forward the information that you need.

Bruce, I also have a Victa Standard 2 stroke Mower (bought new 1996) which fires but will not run. I have rebuilt the white plastic carby, replaces the spark plug, fresh fuel and new air filter and think I may now have to change the rings. Could you please send me any information on this procedure (or hints )and also info on the carby (in case I re-assembled it incorrectly).

Regards,

Jeremy

Jeremy,

What colour spark are you getting? (Blue or Yellow)

Bruce,
Thankyou for getting back so promptly.
I would have to say the spark is more blue than yellow. I did get a good zap out of it quite recently and when I tested just now it seemed like a fairly strong spark.

I did a quick compression check as described in the Gregory's Victa Rotary mower manual (1955-1987 - all I could get from the local library) and felt very little resistance, infact it would probably
do a number of revolutions with one swing of the blades, thus my thinking of changing the rings.

Regards,

Jeremy

Bruce,I have managed to replace the rings without any "paperwork" to assist me.The machine is running very smoothly and I feel on top of the world,as it was my first job of this nature ever!It will be nice if I can get a guide for future reference. The head and cylinder can be removed from the crankcase(I hope that is what it is called)and is in 2 parts. It is not a power torque engine.Thanks.

Hi all, I have a victa 160 power torque engine, the cylinder and the crankcase are all one casting. I was wondering how to replace the rings on piston.I was considering using the engine on a scooter that I made, would I need to get a better carb for performance(it has the black plastic one)and does anyone have any suggestions on getting the most power out of this engine.
Thanks, Kieran.
