See photos, I picked this up as a barn find (should have left it there?) Mate picked it up off the side the road 5 yrs ago sprayed some Aerostart in it, it fired up and the he shoved it in a leaky shed. What do you think guys? scrap and or Rat for bits to ebay? I'd have to unscrew the cylinder studs and split the cases and then the crank to be able to machine out the piston (which is STD). The crank actually turns!! go figure!! The base is not too bad, the wheel aduster and front axle locator / Keeper has rusted through (easy fix)although it is a bit loose in the housing..... Oh yeah the engine # is 4 753 6 98 ???? Thoughts? ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/06/full-3937-1514-img_3214.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/06/full-3937-1515-img_3219.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/06/full-3937-1516-img_3221.jpg)

KEEP!
This was not as common as the normal utility, its a 75-75 Victa special 160.

It will need a fair bit to restore, but its not an easy find, and quite a nice machine when done up!

All you need for that is to tidy up the base, and shove a working Series 70 MKIV engine on it (Full Crank, Starter on top, Plastic Carby) and a fresh LM carby, and your on the path to a restore.

Any cracks in the base plate itself?

 Cheers
 Ty

Cheers,No I havn't found any cracks in the base. I think that part would come up pretty tidy with a new bush on the axle & axle keepers other than that it is missing one front wheel cap. I dont think it saw much action, going by the piston skirt and inside the base...The carby appears fine (other that the water high water mark)

I figured it might be a bit odd /rare, mmmmmm a pretty punishing 1st resto project....

It shouldn't be too bad, that engine is not to hard to find, and usually in good nick, the rest is cleaning, re-shaping (that front wheel looks a bit off line) and maybe painting. I would imagine the hardest part is if you want to replace the 'Special 160' sticker.(mind you, the cowl could use some work, so if a suitable replacement can be found, you may get a better sticker on that) Here's a pic of the a slightly earlier one, 1972. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2011/06/full-5013-1517-victa_special_1602.png)

Thanks Ty,I'll keep it's progress posted....I'll have to put some feeler's out locally for a motor. Anyone in Adelaide let me know (via a PM) if you wish to part with a donour motor etc.. Still tempted (read into that "dreaming")to attempt to recon this one just for a challenge! the cyl. might clean up at 0.060" oversize.....
 Cheers,
 John

If you want to give that a go, i cant see the harm in it, and if it does not work out too well, i can send you a good cylinder and piston if you want to cover the postage.
 Cheers
 Ty

Sure thing, just let me know if you hit any trobles, and i will do what i can.
I have a number of spare MKIV Cylinders around, as i thend to be after the MKII and MKIII, so Murphy has bestowed me manny IV's.

Just a quick bit, i have mentioned to you in another post about the names of these engines and the series, but to give you something to go by, heres a guick ID guide"

 Series 70:
-MKI: Full Crank, No Decompressor, Starter on top (Normall a Wind Up), G3 Metal Carby with plastic Govenor
-MKII: & MKIII Full Crank, Decompressor, Starter on top, G3 Metal Carby with plastic Govenor (the difference between II & III is down to some minor adjustments to the carby and ignition)
-MKIV: Full Crank, Decompressor, Starter on top, and a Plastic G4 Carby with vacuum governing

 Series 80:
-MKI: Full Crank, Decompressor, Geared Starter on side of engine, Mechanical Ignition, G4 or LM Plastic Carby
-MKII: Fill Crank, Decompressor, Geared Starter on side of engine, Electronic Ignition, G4 or LM Plastic Carby

The Series 70 came out in 1970, the series 80 in 1980, before the series 70 the engines are just given varios model numbers, and after the series 80 came the powetorque.

 Cheers
 Ty

I had the same thing with a motor on a Super24 slasher. Looked like that inside and turned over still. After a night of getting air into all that wet stuff it locked up solid in the cranckshaft.

Easier just to bin the motor.

Ive got a Utility the same as the green one above. But it has a points motor on it with a plastic carb. Not the correct engine for it. I will get it back to the best i can one of these days. I might get it back tomorrow, give my uncle his MTD back and reclaim my Victa.

Is it just me or is there something wrong with the base on yours where the front axle goes on?? Looks like the LH side in the pic is sitting too far back. Mine has sloppy clips holding the axles and a bit of wear in the height relay arms holes.

Easier just to bin the motor.Yeah I think so too, but need something to take the mind off a few other things at the momment. I always enjoy a challenge!! Is it just me or is there something wrong with the base on yours where the front axle goes on?? Looks like the LH side in the pic is sitting too far back. Mine has sloppy clips holding the axles and a bit of wear in the height relay arms holes. You are right there, what has happened is the front axle has retaining clips which hold it to the base, these have collpsed (rusted out) and allowed the adjuster rod from the back to over centre and drag back the wheel and under a bit. I suspect this is why it was dumped, if you have a look at the blades in the photo there is evidence of them stiking the adjuster rod which runs underneath from the rear to the front. I'll take some more happy snaps to clarify and post...
