Hi All

First time poster. Recently purchased my first ride on, a 2nd hand Cox built Victa Corvette 4016 Model C666899I.

[Linked Image]

Recently shut it down with the blades still engaged (error error) and now it will not start. Turned the key and nothing. At first I thought it was the battery but now not sure what to do.

As it did not come with an owners manual would apreciate any ideas/thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

There is an owner manual for a 4015 in the parts and manuals section. It includes a wiring diagram and exploded views of most of the areas of the machine. I don't know what difference there is between the 4015 and 4016 - if it isn't much, you might like to subscribe and download that manual.

The owner manual includes a troubleshooting guide, and it does not mention shutting the machine down with the cutter clutch engaged as a reason for the engine not to start subsequently. I would be inclined to check for mechanical faults first - such as whether the cutter clutch is free when the machine is parked. Please disconnect the battery cable and the spark plug before you make this check. I know that is obvious, but people sometimes forget.

Thanks Grumpy for the quick post....have now subscribed and will see what the 4015 manual offers. Also the tip to disconnect battery and spark plug is appreciated.

totally different machines, the 4015 is a Murray, yours is a Kingcat - they're a NZ machine sold by Cox & re-badged by Victa.
Make sure the blade engage lever is back in the disengage position or it won't start. If you ring Cox, ask for the spare parts section & ask them to send you a manual.
Brilliant machine!! I just bought a Cox 32 to retire my Kingcat with

Mike, you might try this link, then investigate the Cox area of it:

I seem to recollect that Cox will help you with a manual if you prove ownership by giving them the model and serial number information for your mower. It should be on a sticker on the mower somewhere (perhaps under the seat?)

Thanks Redeye, that was a big help. While Mike waits for the manual from Cox he could check the mechanical situation regarding the blade clutch. I didn't even suspect it would engage manually rather than electromagnetically. Most likely the immediate problem would be that the lever is not all the way up, or perhaps the safety microswitch on the engagement mechanism is slightly out of adjustment (or slightly trashed).

Mike, if the problem does turn out to be that the blade clutch safety microswitch is not opening, you might be best advised to read the manual before you try to perform any surgery on it. The world is full of ride-on mowers that have ended up with some of their safety devices bypassed or not working. This is unnecessary and a bad idea. By following the manual you can get everything working the way it should, giving you a better chance of keeping your hands, feet and kids all in good condition.

Thanks Grumpy. Have the model/serial numbers so will contact Cox and see if I can get a manual. Have also since looked at the Cox manual here and the Kingcat one has a lot of info which is similar including the deck diagrams but still not sure how the engage blades thing works.

Thanks also Redeye....however the blade engage operation is via a button next to the steering wheel not a lever. Any idea if I can visually work out if the blades are in the engage position or not?

Thanks guys

That means the blade clutch is electromagnetic, not mechanical. I'll wait for Redeye's comments, since he's used the machine and I haven't.

Hi All, I know this is likely an archived thread, but I have inherited one of these 1999 model mowers with a property purchase.

I'm trying to identify what the cutter deck belt is. Unfortunately it threw the belt and I ran over it, so I can't get it measured.

Any links for manuals would be much appreciated.

If the belt is for two pulleys the info needed to get a new belt is the outer diameters of the pulleys, the distance between their centres and the shape of the "vee", plus add a bit for any adjustment idler. The great engineering supplier I use always offers me two belts, one a bit longer, just in case one is too tight.
