Hi All, I've been given a Honda HRU194 mower, it starts fine with the choke applied, however once started and with the choke off there is no throttle control at all. I suspect that there are missing parts. Photo included. Thanks guys. [Linked Image]

fatone, it certainly seems to have been messed up. Someone removed the governor spring and left you with a wire that seems to just lock the governor arm in the idle position. The diagram shows how the linkage is supposed to be connected. [Linked Image]

So, it could have been worse - you could have had to buy parts, at Honda prices. However if the guy who gave it to you is that inventive, he may have done other things as well. Run it with your hand close to the stop switch, and a full-facemask crash helmet and crotch protector, until you've done some commissioning trials.

fatone,

You nearly tricked me but after looking at the picture closley I notice something important and that is the spring that should be on the bottom of the govenor arm which should be connected to the bottom of the arm where the throttle cable fits into. cheers2

That's right Bruce, but he also put a piece of wire on the bottom of the governor arm, where the governor spring should go, connecting the arm to a stationary bracket. That locks the governor arm, which in turn locks the throttle butterfly in the closed position.

fatone, could you let us know when you have put the governor together properly and tried it out please? You just need to do three things.

1. Remove the piece of wire that runs from the bottom of the governor arm to the control protector front attachment screw. It isn't a Honda part and shouldn't be there - all it does is lock the throttle in the closed position. Tighten the front attachment screw after you remove the wire from underneath its head.
2. Install a governor spring where it belongs: - Attach one end to the bottom of the governor arm (the hole you removed the spurious wire from in Step 1). - Attach the other end of the spring to the hole near the bottom of the control lever.

When you have done that you should find that the speed control cable stretches and relaxes the governor spring, and the throttle butterfly moves when it does so. If you are lucky that will be the only part of the mower that has been messed up, but as I said previously, be careful when you first start it, and switch if off if it does not work properly.
