ok now i havent come across this before but i purchaced 2 old rover rideons the old tiller style and i did a service on both engines now neither had been started for prob 16 months or more so i pulled the plugs and sprayed in the plughole with wd then pulled them over slowly.i then put plug back in and some fresh fuel and a spray of the old aerostart and away they went.stoped them and my son left the fuel tap on one and in the morning when we did an oil change one was good but black and the other had a sump full of fuel.what would cause this?? i know both carbys need an overhaul and are the kits available and roughly how much.. any help apreciated guys regards mike

Those rideon-size Briggs engines have gravity fuel feed. If the needle and seat does not seal, the float bowl floods, and the disharge nozzles in the venturi are lower than the top of the float bowl, so fuel runs into the venturi. It can't get high enough to go through the inlet valve into the cylinder, though, unless there is no overflow vent in the top of the float bowl. On the other hand it could go through the valve guide and get to the sump that way.

The short answer is, fix the needle and seat, and don't leave the fuel on.
