Hi I have just inherited this mower which I plan to overhaul and then probably sell. Can anyone tell me its approximate age and model name. I think it may be a Mustang purchased around 1990 - would this make sense? Thank you

That particular victa was sold under many different names, basically it is a victa powertorque 2 stroke 18: cut.
May I suggest a good clean underneath, the grass clippings left stuck on like that will rust out the deck in no time.
Cheers Joe.

They called them all sorts of things, different type of wheel cover and it got a different name. Is there a model number on the lid of the air cleaner, if there is Bruce might be able to tell you
The mustangs were alloy based. Not sure if that was all of them, definately the ones ive seen.

I'd say its a Standard from about 1990/91 - it's the most basic model in the range (small nylon bush wheels, hub covers not hubcaps, flat handle, small engine cover with small fuel filler etc). This stripped-down Commando model was introduced at the time of The Recession We Had To Have - does the job without any frills. Victa then de-spec'd the basic model even more around 1996 when they went to the small air filter throttle assembly and removed (blanked off the port) the decompressor in the head! Not a Mustang as they were the premium models with an alloy deck, ball bearing wheels, upturned & quick-fold handles etc. As Joe Carroll and Rodeobob state, it's easy as to find parts as it's just a basic Powertorque on a 18" cut steel deck.

The worst thing is that if you got 10 different steel based victas and made up one mower Victa would have already had a model designtion and name for it.

In the trench in the arch of the frame there was usally some sort of sticker. Well there was on some of the later one piece tank Victas i have seen.
Also seen one or two with stickers on the tank. I would imagine they would not last tooo long there.
Model is not really relavant. If you are looking to sell it just call it a Victa Power Torque, someone will buy it and be happy. It does not detract from the value. I sold a bitsa, not as neat looking as that for $123 at auction on eBay without a catcher. Prior to that i had got $140 for a Commando and $120 for another named model Victa.
Cheers, Bob.

Hi Bob, I think that is good advice, unless it is a vintage machine or a one off, model name is not relevant. Victa Power Torque is the way to go.
