Hi all,
I have the victa 5-26 series 7 mower and after hunting around for parts its finally operational again. I am chasing a manual for this machine, particularly showing the parts layout and numbers. Would be interested in a copy or pdf or buy the manual. Even if someone knows the manual part number as some of these are avail in states.

After using the machine for a couple of hours on weekend cutting at a high level (minor slashing) I have managed to destroy the cutter belt. For some reason the v section of the belt has disintegrated and left the outer ribbing. By the time I smelt the belt it was too late. I checked pulleys and the belt has been riding at middle of the v (not bottoming out in the v) and pulleys seem to be in good nick.
I am wondering if maybe cutting at the highest level whether or not the tension on belt may have not been enough... slack springs?
Any help appreciated before I install a $60.00 belt.
Also the chain drive to the gearbox, to adjust slack out of chain do I remove a link or purchase a new chain?

The belt failure you have described is characteristic of overheating due to slipping. Either you had insufficient tension or you overloaded the belt by taking on an impractical task. I can't tell which from here, and can't open the parts manual which is in the manuals section of this site - it seems to be corrupt. Hopefully someone else will advise us both on whether a 5-26 can be used for slashing.

If the drive chain is slack, the cause is likely to be wear on the chain and sprockets. Removing a link will accelerate the rate of damage to the sprockets, and the new chain will wear out quickly if the sprockets are already worn due to running with a worn chain in the past. You can assess this by inspecting the shape of the sprocket teeth. If they have long sharp points, or even undercutting of the points, the sprockets are very severely worn and will destroy any new chain you fit. It is correct practice to replace chain and sprockets as a set, in most cases.

The belt tension confirms problem as the High setting on the deck brings a lesser tension on the belt. My springs could be slack too as they would be the originals. When I fit the new belt I will see if I can move the springs 10mm further forward to apply a little more tension. Just means at lowest setting the belt may have more tension, however never use this setting.
Without the manual/parts book, Im not sure if springs would still be avail which leads to next problem of numbers for the sprockets and chain. I will replace the set if I can find some and there appropiate numbers.

I see there is a manual avail in US, which states 481-2202 as the manual/model number and 5hp 26inch riding mower as description., and the pic looks similar to mine? Im not sure of the number, maybe they use a diff number in the states?

Andrew, I'm inclined to guess that the manufacturer didn't intend the mower to be used for slashing, hence the lower belt tension when the deck is fully raised. That doesn't mean it can't do the job, but it may need some modifications here and there. There is a Victa parts manual available, and it is on this site in the manuals section, but the file seems to be corrupt. Hopefully it can be replaced.

I seem to have read that Victa (an Australian company) didn't make ride-on mowers, it sold mowers made by another manufacturer and labelled them Victa. The 5-26 may be an MTD model, but I don't know which one. If you think you have the right manual, try comparing some specific mechanical and electrical features with yours.

If you can find the part numbers you need, check the on-line store on this site to see if the parts are available.

All good. Thanks for info. Yes, i think your right on the slashing, this mower was probably intended for "lawn mowing" lower deck level rather than High grass/ slashing. I think also the ground speed I was using could have been too fast, not allowing the cutter to expell the grass quick enough and would increase belt slippage too.

I will replace belt tomorrow and increase tension on the deck springs and maybe drop deck to second level too. I only have an hrs work left in the "slashing mode", and dont require the lowest deck setting here at all.
With the chain and sprockets, I located a second hand chain today, which might pick up the tension for now on the diff/gearbox issue. However closer inspection of the gear on the gearbox does show reasonable wear. So once I get together the part numbers I will definately replace them....Hopefully not too dear..lol.

Hi androo,when i had mine(now converted into a go-cart)there should be a chain tensioner which can slide to take up slack by means of a steel small wheel.also i have a spare forward/reverse gear box-chain-pulleys-steering shaft.virtually all the bits i took off to make it light in weight and safe for the kids.i can send them for the price of postage...ken

Andrew, if you are going to replace the chain and sprockets anyway, you don't seem to have anything to lose by tightening your old chain on your old sprockets rather than buying a second-hand chain and running it with your old sprockets. You currently have a matched chain and sprockets in terms of wear condition. If you remove the slack from the chain, you can keep using it until the small sprocket becomes visibly on the way out (ultimately, the tips of the sprocket teeth will fall off, if you really want to persist to the ultimate stage of deterioration).

Of course, Ken's offer is just about the ultimate in good deals. If you have two matched sets of chain-and-sprockets, you can use the better one and still have a usable one for emergencies.

If you go to the manuals section, then the ride-on section of that, select Victa, and open a file called 132-402A.pdf, you're there. Until Bruce fixed it, the file was corrupt and wouldn't open.

Hi. I am new to this. I have an early victa 5 26 and have broken the rear axel right where the rear sproket bolts on to the diff. The part number is tm61205a so i am told. does any one know where i may find this part?
