I have a unit minus the engine - engine blew up about 12 years ago - took it in to be fixed the the quote was over the wall so I asked for the engine back and they couldn't find all the bits and I only got some of it - was not pleased so the slasher has sat here ever since - in the process I don't have the pulley off the motor - anyone know what the size of this is please?

You can calculate the required pulley size from first principles. A typical engine speed for an 18" mower is 3,000 rpm, though they will mow satisfactorily down to 2,000 rpm. You have a 28" mower, so you want to run your cutter at less than that - 18/28ths of that in fact. To get that speed reduction you want a crankshaft pulley that is 64% of the size of your cutter pulley. You haven't told us the size of your cutter pulley, so you should measure it and either tell us, or just multiply it by .64 and go find a pulley.

Can't get right into it as the cover is in the way and the whole unit is under the house with less than a meter clearance but a rough measure is 6" - there is also another 6" take off for the wheel drive so I guess the engine pulley is a double one

You need to check with a straight-edge across one of the pulleys, whether the cutter and wheel drives are in line with each other. If they are not, you need a double pulley. If they are in line, it's a round-the-world belt setup covering three pulleys.
Best to actually measure the pulleys before you buy an engine pulley.

The belts are still there - a big one going to the blades and a small one for the wheel drive - with a small tension pulley on the side

It's a bit trickier then David. I take it the big and small belts are different widths - otherwise you'd have said different lengths. That means the double crankshaft pulley is a special one with two different-sized V-sections. Also, there's no reason why the two pulley sections should be the same diameter. The calculation we discussed is for the pulley section that drives the cutter. To size the pulley section that drives the wheels we need to know how many turns of the wheel-drive pulley it takes to move the mower forward, say, three feet.
When we've worked out a design for the crankshaft pulley you could ask around on this site for a pulley fairly much like that. If you can't get one, you'd have to have one turned up on a lathe. Not a big job, but you'd have to make a detailed, dimensioned sketch.

Sorry my bad - long and short - both same width/cross section - might have to contact Greenfield and see if they have it as a spare part

Greenfield seems like a good place to start. If you send them a photo of the machine, most likely they'll know which pulley it requires.

The part number that you require is GT00402 for the cutter deck pulley and the engine pulley is GT01973 (expensive).

We have the parts list in the parts list and manuals area of the forum and the model is Ultimo.

I have been trying to locate a generic pulley but so far no luck but I will keep you posted.cheers2
