Hi There i have a Victa Razor 2 stroke mower with a VSX 160 engine in it.it has a speed governor that increases the revs automaticly when under load. The problem is,it will only start and run in the cold start position, even when warmed up.As soon as i push the throttle up to the hot start/run position, the engine cuts out.it's just started happening recently. The mower is a year and a half old.The fuel bowl and jet is clean, and so is the air filter. The needle and float are fine and the spark plug is ok.it just refuses to start and run in any position except cold start.i suspect it has something to do with the speed governor.Could this be so?Can you advise me. Thank You. GTSBAZ

My first suspicion would be an induction air leak. It sounds like a half-crank Victa, so the first places to look for the leak would be the O-rings (both in the intake pipe near the carburetor, and the crankcase seal under the starter).

Thanks for that grumpy. i will have to check those things out when i get the chance. This mower won the Australian design of the year award in 2004 or 2005.i forget which now. This engine the Victa High-Torque VSX 160 is the only engine in the world that actually accelerates under load.Mine use to,now it just stalls. Cheers for now. GTSBAZ

GTSBAZ, You could have a blockage in the governor outlet on the block which would cause the diaphragm in the carby not to do its job or the diaphragm could be leaking or damaged/stretched. Try blowing out the governor outlet first to see if that corrects the problem.

When you start it by priming with fuel, does it keep running? Does it run properly?
If it runs properly once started, you just have a starting problem, which may be because your choke isn't working. It can't be a main jet or float bowl problem if it runs properly once started.

nik, just to be clear, does it start and keep running when you 'dump' fuel into the con rod or does it splutter and that's all?
have you tried taking apart the carb and giving it a clean over?
