Hi. I was wondering if anybody can help me. I just picked up a second hand Victa 2 stroke (Power Torque) and it runs perfectly but only for a short time before it just cuts out. The amount of time it runs varies but it always dies the same way, no coughing or spluttering, just simply switches off. I have removed and cleaned the carby and exhaust. I have tried bypassing the kill switch and this seemed to work for a little while then the same thing happened. This is driving me nuts!

The symptoms are not a good fit for fuel starvation - they are a better fit for a problem in the ignition module. You might be able to catch it playing up by testing the spark immediately after it quits - within seconds of stopping. I have never found that a reliable test though - the module can cool off and start working very quickly indeed.

If it is spark, it will either be bad grounding of the module or a bad module - unfortunately, the latter is a better fit for your symptoms. You should be able to get a replacement module from some nearby Victa abandoned on a nature strip.

Before you replace the module, you might try disconnecting the kill wire - leave the carburetor end of the wire from the module completely isolated. This is just in case the wire is shifting in the carburetor by a tiny amount after warm-up, and touching the nearby ground wire. Always isolate the kill wire and retest before you condemn a module. A bad module is more likely, but a kill wire problem is easier to test.
