The 2 stroke (160cc Power Torque?) on my Victa Corvette 700 has a major problem. When you turn the cutting disc back and forward it moves about 1/4 turn and stops solid each side of the turn. The piston can be seen through the plug hole at bottom of stroke (?) and moves as far as the cutting disc turns. Does this sound terminal or an expensive fix. Can a reasonably handy home mechanic fix this? ThnX.

Take off the top cowling, then undo the 3 12mm bolts holding the starter on, remove the starter and tell us what you see?

Once the starter assembly is removed there appears to be metal shavings frown scattered inside the crank housing. There also appears to be substantial wear marks on the alloy(?) piece mounted in the starter housing which the end of crank appears to have contacted. The bottom of the pistom skirt seems to have vertical scuff marks also frown frown. Doesn't look too promising??

Sounds like to me it has been run on straight petrol at some stage, which in most cases I would start looking for another bare motor to swap everything onto. smile

Thanks for you help Joe. It was a mower I originally sourced for the Alloy Chassis and was sold as damaged. Thought I might see if I could resurrect it but looks like not. Which parts are worth hanging on to in case I can use them on a rebuild?
Thanx.

Everything off the motor is work keeping, decompressor, carby, magneto, starter, fuel tank cowling.
