Hi Bruce

While waiting to obtain funds to complete the Mark 3 lawnmower I have started to work on my Victa VC 160 Mark 4 lawnmower. The mower runs fine (starts first pull) but when set to grass cutting speeds very fast and sounds like it is going to blow up. There is a wheel that you can turn on the carby that says idle adjustment, do I use this to change the revs when the mower is running?

cheers2

VC Victa,

No you do not use the knob on the carby it is only for the idle speed.

The bet is that you could have a damaged 'O' ring on the spout that the carby locks onto or you might have a leaking top seal. cheers2

How do I check the seals, do I need to remove the carby from the mower?

cheers2

VC Victa,

You need to remove the flywheel and then put some petrol (fuel) on the top seal of the shaft and if it bubbles (or just disappears) then the seal is leaking. cheers2

Hi Bruce

I discovered that the head casket was stuffed and the cylinder head threads that hold the spark plug in place were worn out, also the decompressor was not working properly. I have rebuilt and replaced relevant parts and now runs well, still a little fast.
