Hi, I have a Masport Morrison 490 (4n1) mower with a 625 Series B&S.
It has been a solid mower for many years and I would like to keep it running.

I started it up for this season and it started first pull however it now blows oiley smoke for the first few minutes (before it gets hot). This is the case each time I cold start it now.
I read that this may be due to valve seals.

The engine numbers (02 0200 B 0906 858) stamped on the plate above the muffler don't seem to pull up anything useful on the B&S site for downloding an operating or service manual.
I need maintenance info and parts list (in the likely case I need to replace stuff).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Stabio, welcome here,
My option would be to run it till it gives up the ghost and get another motor for it. They are not worth the time or money to rebuild

I'd check the oil level and make sure it's not over the full mark on the dip stick.

It's usually worn valve guides or worn rings ,if it is only burning oil on start up it's usually worn valve guides.

I'd look at a tip shop or Gumtree or Facebook marketplace for a Cheap or free mower as old mowers are $50. or less

With regards to both NormK's and Max's replies, they are both correct, and I would also like to add my thoughts on this matter.

[Remember Rule#1:- Before you do anything on your mower, always remove the rubber grommet cover from the spark plug]
Having said that, have you considered draining all the existing engine oil out, and replacing it with a new supply, of the same?
[e.g. when I do my mowers, I measure how much is drained into a container, weather it be 15W 30, 40, or 50 e.g., and the amount that comes out, a new supply of the same amount goes back in, with a small top up if necessary]. As Max says, don't over fill it!. Also, remove the existing spark plug [the # should be on it], and give it a good clean, or replace it with a brand new one. While you're at it, take a good look at the air filter, as it could very well be clogged full of unwanted detritus, and may need a good clean, or even replacing.

B&S engines are normally very reliable, regardless of the model # and a tad of TLC now & then, can often make a huge difference on their performance...
