How do I identify what Villiers motor I have and is there any special way of setting the timing on it motor or is it just guesswork with putting a mark on the flywheel and a mark on the backing plate and hopefully that is close enough? I can't see any timing marks anywhere and the points cam is part of the flywheel. I can't see any other way of setting it up or am I missing something. It has good spark I just can't get in the right spot. From what I have found it is a Midget and I have found an arrow on the flywheel and what I think is a mark on the treaded end of crank which looks that it is TDC. The problem is if I line these marks up is puts the points at the back of the points cam so at this stage I am a little confused.

Thanks Max,
I have scratched around a bit and I think I have a handle on it. My issue is how to get the pull start pulley off the flywheel so I can get the cover off the pulley so I can set the timing

I still haven't worked out how to remove the nut and pull start pulley so that I can remove the cover plate and then I will be able to set the timing as i will be able to see when the points start to open

Hi Norm,

If it's like in the pic below you will need to remove the starter pulley bolt first ,the flywheel nut is usually attached to the flywheel
so it still can be undone but is not separated from the flywheel ,see in pic below ,then 3 screws to get the cover off.

I'll give you the link to the PDF manual instead of the pics as they are from the manual and it explains removing the flywheel.

Hi Max,
This is what I have I can't see how to remove the pull starter so I can remove the cover plate. All the mowers I have looked at have the kick starter not this pulley

G'day Norm,

I think you will need an open ended spanner under the pulley to hold the crank nut then undo the top pulley bolt .

Then remove the 3 small screws to get the alloy cover off.
