Does anybody know where I can get flat hand grips in Australia? They were once used on a lot of machines that had 1/4" X 1" flat steel handles e.g. harvesters.

Back in the day (1970s), Rover made their own 1/4" X 1" rubber hand grips with the Rover logo on them. What I would give for a set of those in mint condition!!

Actually the best size might be 3/16" X 1" for a snug fit. Both sizes are available in America from a few suppliers. India and China have them but only if you are willing to purchase like 10,000 of them. I only need 2 and maybe a couple to put away in the shed for when those ones wear out.

I am presently using ordinary 7/8" hand grips which push on and become "sort of" flat. But they are a bit unstable and prone to slipping unless glued in place. They never seem to want to sit perfectly flat. I tried using heatshrink, which works okay for a while, but the material is not very resistant to oil and fuel and soon degrades. Some genuine flat hand grips would be ideal, but who in Australia has them? No wonder most farmers in Australia get frustrated trying to find hand grips that fit so just wrap electrical tape around and around the handles. laugh

Hi Vm,

I haven't seen many sold separately lately ,I know there are ALKO ones available that are 1 inch X 1/4 for trailer and caravan
park brake levers , sometimes you will find old trailers thrown out at scrap yards with the park lever handle still on.

Other alternatives could be foam ,tennis racquet handle grip ,cricket bat handle cover.

Cheers
Max.

Thanks Max, I was not aware of the ALKO ones. They might do the job nicely.
