Does anybody know how to remove this centre cap that is holding the screen on. I guess it must lever off but I don't want to damage it if I can avoid it

Hi Norm,

I haven't removed one from this type of briggs motor but the 17.5 hp is just a press fit and I can see 2 indentations so
I would just use a flathead screwdriver or a small pry tool to gently pry up on one edge of the cap then the other side
so it's removed eavenly

Cheers
Max.

Yes it just pries up with a flat head screwdriver and then you have access the screw underneath it holding the flywheel on.

Thanks AVB, was so simple I should have tried to lift it but didn't want to bend the screen as I had paid $50 for this motor with a broken con rod. I needed the air filter cover because my wife had thrown the one I had in the rubbish bin. Anyway I got a good starter, carby, stator, flywheel the top cover and $5 scrap for the motor so I am happy
