Good mate picked up this Victa Tornado Mulch or Catch, no history of its past life available. Has been absolutely neglected - air filter cover has probably never been opened, the filter was incredibly gunked up, no evidence the spark plug has ever been removed, suspect original oil in sump, etc, seems to be missing the throttle controlling springs.

I have a few other similar side valve B & S but none with the same carby setup to compare.

Is a bit low on compression but managed to get it running nicely by holding the throttle a little way open to start and when moving the butterfly valve with my fingers it revs up perfectly.

Been searching but can't find a diagram or any pics of how the throttle control springs should be connected. The single spring it came with was connected to the throttle mechanism on the hole shown with the arrow in the photo but it is obviously wrong. I suspect there's some pieces/springs missing.

Help please. I'm sure there is plenty of life left in this old mower.

Hi MM,

Sometimes I cut a little off the spring to get more tension to open the throttle but usually the easiest fix is to bend the lever
where the spring end fits on ,this will apply more tension to the throttle to increase the upper rpm.

If you apply too much tension the engine idle will be too fast.

Cheers
Max.

Here is how to set the speed for the engine.
