A friend found this little gem languishing in a shed, thought I should have it.

Pulling on starter cord did nothing but once cover was removed could see why.

Motor turns over nicely and spark is good but zil compression. I suspect the rings are gummed up. Interestingly has impulse type carb so would have been able to use in all orientations.

Of course mandatory mudwasp fillings in various orifices.

Lovely to look at as is and too fiddly to restore, no evidence of ever being touched with a screwdriver before. No doubt every Tanaka dealer will have vast supplies of NOS spares on their shelves...........

Any ideas how old this is ?

Here is a parts list for you model which is really old, could be about 40 plus years.

Would be wonderful to find some of the aged/cracked plastic parts but very unlikely.

Have been unable to try to get it running with a drill turning the flywheel nut.

May be able to make a starter pawl, seems to be the only part missing.

You do know cordless drills have gone electric now don't you?

But back in "The Day" MF there was no alternative for building farm fences, now you just drag around a genset

That would be a powerful hole maker, as long as it starts and runs!

The tank was full of nasty crud and presume the carb is thoroughly gunked up too but the little devil does run with a shot of fuel down the intake.

Very well made machine. The fuel lines are still soft and flexible, no cracks - better than found in a lot of much younger chainsaws/brushcutters.

Now that it is known to run it will become a Shelf Queen.

Very collectable exhibit. No plastic everywhere but the engine.

Looks like a P7 (22cc) engine that was first manufactured from the early sixties.
