Hi All After any ideas on my motor problem. I have a 8hp 19000 series engine(vert shaft) starts perfect, When run on higher revs it seems to be surging IE: fueling up then clearing. It does this continually. I have quickly cleaned out the bowl and jets. Still the same. The motor will idle quite well though. Any thoughts?

Whats the fuel flow to the carby like?
Also while its running adjust the screw on the bottom of the bowl until it runs smoothly, this adjusts the mixture, it sounds like it may be out a tad.

If it is running on the governor and it really is surging - that is cyclically changing speed between consistent high and low values, each few seconds - it is almost certainly just lean mixture. Try adjusting the main mixture screw. With the engine running (and surging), note where the mixture screw slot is, then turn it anti-clockwise half a turn. If that makes the problem go away, you just need to go through the B&S adjustment procedure by finding the rich and lean limits then putting it halfway between.
If it isn't mixture, it is probably a governor malfunction but I've never personally seen one that was anything but mixture. I yield to Bruce's much greater experience in this stuff.

grumpy, I do agree with you for the fuel mix but stevea said that he had cleaned the carby bowl as well as jets but as I can't see what he has done I have gone for the gov spring and gov setting. Unfortunately if the description is not good in the post you can only guess what the procedure should be.
