Just thinking last night, I got nothing for christmas............ Got a txt from a friend with facebook giveaway, got directions and bingo.
It amazes me how Santa knows exactly what we really want.... I have two motors full stroke top pull, that I put together over the years as I had the parts laying around....... work in progress now............................... speedy

I found one of those exact mowers years ago and it had one missing wheel too! They were part of Victa's professional range denoted by the orange base and large fuel tank. Wish I still had mine. Try and get the existing side pull engine going if you can. I love this model.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
I turned fuel off, they often rev a bit........ I'll put a kill switch on it later. I'm trying to identify it. Looks like 1980's Pro 460 with side pull full crank 18". serial number 453008044. I 'd like to get correct year. It has LM carb. The motor shows little wear, wheels axles as well. speedy

It's not a good idea to use the fuel tap to turn off the mower, which is why I don't let any 2 stroke run out of fuel if I can help it. I always slip off the snorkel from the throttle and filter assembly and block it with my hand if the cut out isn't working.
From a Victa guide on fuelling and safety.

Going by the serial number I'd say it's a Victa Pro 460 from November the 7th 1983 .
I've had plenty of Victa 2 stroke mowers that when you turn the fuel tap off when running they do not rev up ,they just eventually cut out but have had lots that do rev up from turning the tap off ,I would think when they rev up the engine is running lean as air is being sucked in through the crank case seals or manifold seals leaking.
Good way to test a mower if you are buying a two stroke ,don't buy the mower if it revs up from turning the tap off when running, although I do agree 2 stroke mowers should not be stopped by turning the tap off.
Max, I had never thought of that aspect with regard to the seals causing rev increase.
I admittedly run them out mostly (ie when I hear the motor tone change as it begins to lean out i shut it off), but I do have a FC tilt a cut that will absolutely rev it guts out before dying.
As it is a mongrel to start, I think I will pull the seals
Edit - Max answered While I was typing
MF, I think Max correctly analysed the code speedy posted 453008044 - means 45th week of 1983. Which started Nov 7 1983
Yes it does sound like the seals have gone Tyler (hard to start and over revving)
If I buy a new rubber plug for the original kill switch wires then I generally don't have any more problems with the kill switch Speedy but a separate switch will work fine too.
I too have found a couple of twins 1983 .WP152AO
Drawing Pigs you say in 83 Mf, yes I too was drawing portraits of teachers in class .
Arguing With a teacher is like wrestling with a pig in mud sooner or later you realize the pig likes it.
It's been in bath for 13 days, just checked and turned handles over so ends will get treated.. Looking good.......... Motor is ready to put together.. Got the Rustolium paint. I use that stuff because when it dries , spilt petrol doesn't disolve it, like ordinary paints. speedy
